Washington : Tourist's Hot Spots

Washington is a unique mixture of the modern and native influences of culture. Named after the first President of the United States, George Washington, It is also called the Evergreen State. With a tint of the American Indian Heritage and vast skylines of Cities like Seattle, Tacoma and Vancouver, Washington has much to explore and discover. The Eternal presence of Mount Rainier and the Cascades make the state of Washington more attractive.

Seattle
The Largest city in the state of Washington and an important port of the Pacific, Seattle has a huge skyline with numerous industries and economic centers. Its ports are the major facility in Trade between America and Asia. Seattle is proud of the fact that world’s two most famous and successful companies, Microsoft and Boeing are situated in the heart of the city. The fact is supportive enough of the city’s economic growth. Apart from a lavish lifestyle, Seattle is both culturally and naturally known throughout the country. The Ice capped Mount Rainier National park and partially snowy Cascades stand above the beautiful oceanic lakes. Seattle is also home to some of the famous Zoos of the country.

•    Everett: With the world’s largest aircraft hangar in the world, Everett is the factory of the Boeing Aircraft Company that is remarkably world’s largest Aircraft Construction Company with the most fame and excellence. A few meters away from the place, is Boeing’s another factory where the Second World War aircrafts were built. The area also features the Red Barn where Boeing built its first aircraft in 1916. The Museum resides several other memorabilia from the past and present of the Boeing aircraft company.

•    Olympic National Park: The Olympic National Park was established in 1938 on the Olympic Peninsula. With the largest temperate rain forest in the region and prominence of Mount Olympus, The Olympic National Park is one of the most widely visited National Parks of the United States. The Serene beauty of the partially snowy Olympic Mountains and the abominable mist house some beautiful mountain flowers. The Olympic National Park provides some excellent hiking opportunities for the visitors and also provides information related back to the Ice Age with its glaciers. One can certainly not miss the epitome of beauty that resides in the arms of the Hoh Rain Forest and its surroundings.

•     Space Needle: The 600ft. high Space Needle is a telecommunication tower with a restaurant and an observation deck at the top giving some eye catching views of the City. The Space Needle is iconic for the city and is considered a landmark and a monument.

Spokane
Spoken is basically the center of Washington’s Agricultural area. A few Museums and Parks located in the City make it an informative tourist destination. Spokane is also the second largest city of the state in terms of population.

•    Mount Spokane: Mount Spokane houses some excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities for the visitors. Mount Spokane is largely popular in the area and its surroundings.

•    Cheney Cowles Memorial Museum: Also known as the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture features many exhibits on history and visual arts of the region. The Museum also houses exhibits pertaining to the Native American Indians.

•    Riverfront Park: A Recreational and an Amusement Park, the Riverfront Park is home to the giant Ferris wheel and many other amusement rides and even a skating rink in the winters. Riverfront Park also houses an IMAX Theater and also hosts many annual celebrations and festivals including the New Year’s Eve Celebration.

Tacoma
Tacoma is the state’s third largest city by population and houses a variety of Museums and entertainment and recreational activities for the tourists. Tacoma is also famous for its port located on the commencement bay and is the major trade route in the pacific. It is also one of the largest seaports in the region. Tacoma is also referred to as The City of Destiny.

•    The Museum of Glass: One of the most distinct and finest museums of the area, The Museum of Glass features glass based contemporary art and one can find a number of elements of porcelain and pottery. The Glass Bridge just next to the museum grabs the visitor’s attention quite easily.

•    Point Defiance Park: The Point Defiance Park is a beautiful landscape comprising of forests, lush green gardens and a scenic view of the Ocean. The Park also houses The Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, the remains of Fort Nisqually, A walking trail and a few restaurants.

Vancouver
Vancouver is Washington’s oldest city and was established by the well known Hudson Bay Company. Vancouver is home to a couple interesting museums and the famous historical site of Fort Vancouver. Vancouver is also the state’s fourth largest city in terms of population.

•    Clark County Historical Museum: The Clark County Historical Museum displays some of the oldest exhibits on the history of the region including native arts, artifacts and much more.

•    Gifford Pinchot National Forest: The Gifford Pinchot National Forest covers a wide area towards the southern region of the state. The area was once victim and prone to lava from Mount St. Helens and hence became a site for naturally formed caves. The Area provides excellent Hiking and camping opportunities for the visitors.

•    Pearson Air Museum: Located on the longest operational flying fields of the United States, The Pearson Air Museum features huge number of vintage aircrafts for public display.

Other Attractions of the State

Castle Rock:  The Town of Castle Rock derives its name from a 150ft high Rock that itself is a derivative from the volcanic Mount St. Helens. The Scenic beauty of the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway and Mount St. Helens itself is an iconic explanation to why this place is recommended not to be missed.

Lopez Island: The Lopez Island is a small island with great opportunities for Kayaking and whale watching. The Area also provides biking opportunities along the coast and its beaches. The area is less visited however its beauty and peaceful ambience cannot be denied.
